DRIVING DIRECTIONS FROM DURANGO:

From Silverton, 49 miles north of Durango on US 550, take County Road 2 north 15 miles (1:13 minutes). It is a slow, rocky road. The photo was taken about 1/4 mile north of Animas Forks from above County Road 9.

BEST TIME OF YEAR:      May to October. June through early July will generally be green and clear of snow at the town site while Burns Gulch and the mountains will still have snow.

BEST TIME OF DAY:        Mid morning or mid afternoon for good shadows with good light in the valley.

Easy walking around the ghost town but this is a popular, high traffic area.

There are almost endless possibilities for weathered and abandoned buildings in this alpine setting. Be creative.
