About the Event
Kennebec Pass Wildflower Photography Outing: Taylor Lake & Giant Gentian Superbloom
Join the Durango Photography Club for a high-country wildflower photography outing to Kennebec Pass and Taylor Lake, one of the most beautiful alpine areas near Durango. This year is a superbloom year for the Giant Gentian, making it a special opportunity to photograph these striking wildflowers in their mountain habitat.
We’ll meet at the parking area just south of Bay City Campground in La Plata Canyon CR 124. I will drive us up to Kennebec Pass in my jeep and hike approximately two miles at high altitude to Taylor Lake, photographing wildflowers, alpine landscapes, mountain light, textures, patterns, and intimate nature scenes along the way. This outing is suitable for photographers of all levels, but participants should be comfortable walking on uneven mountain terrain at elevation.
What we’ll photograph
We’ll focus on:
Wildflower portraits and close-up compositions
